Stop Wasting Practice Time: Introducing The Dynamic Practice System For Guitar

Most people practicing guitar aren’t actually practicing. They’re just picking up the guitar, noodling around for a bit, maybe running through the same old riff, then wondering why they haven’t improved in 6 months.

If that sounds like you — good news: it’s not your fault. You were probably never shown how to structure your practice in the first place.

But let’s fix that now.

Here’s the Problem:

You don’t need more time.
You don’t need more motivation.
You need a plan.

Without one, your practice is random — and random input = random results.

I’ve taught over 2,000 people how to play guitar over the last 10 years, and this is the practice system I give to every single one of them.

The Dynamic Practice System (Explained Without the BS)

Step 1: Pick 3 things you want to get better at this week.
(Example: chord changes, scale patterns, learning a song)

Step 2: Rotate them over 3 days.
Day 1: Item A
Day 2: Item B
Day 3: Item C
Repeat.

If you’ve got more time on any day? Add extra practice. Simple.

If you miss a day? Who cares. Pick up where you left off and move on.

This routine stops you from guessing. It stops the “what should I practice today?” nonsense. And it makes sure you actually cover the things that matter.

For Intermediate/Advanced Players:

Once you’ve been playing longer, you’ll naturally have more to work on. That’s fine. You can scale this system up.

Just keep your practice items to 9–12 max, and rotate them across a 3-day cycle. That way, everything gets covered at least once a week.

Miss a day? You don’t restart or stress. You just keep going. That’s the point — no wasted time, no falling off the wagon.

The Real Secret to Getting Good

Most guitarists don’t fail because they’re untalented.
They fail because they have no structure, no plan, and no clue what to work on.

This fixes that.

You don’t need a 3-hour practice session.
You need 30 minutes of focused, intentional practice — and to do it a few times a week.

That’s it.

Try It This Week

Pick your 3 focus items and rotate them for the next 7 days.

Then come back and tell me you didn’t improve.
